ADVENTUROUS KATE IS A RISK TAKER’S HEROINE!
Female submission wrestlers travel the globe on a regular basis and as a result, some of you reading this may feel that you have seen and done it all.
This writer suspects that may not be true. Let’s try a test.
Have you ever been fly boarding in Malta? Have you danced with the Scots in Scotland? How about witness real Vikings sing “Enjoy Yourself, it’s later than you think”. You must have tried riding in an air balloon over Turkey. If so, then you have ridden a donkey to a monastery in Petra? Certainly you have fought Muay Tai at a Reggae bar in Thailand. Okay then, I know you have been to a fish spa in Bangkok.
Wait you say. No one person has done all of that.
Sure someone has. That’s why we are writing about her. Again!
Kate McCulley is her name and being Adventurous Kate is her worldwide game.
We live in a wonderful world that is full of beauty, charm and adventure. There is no end to the adventures that we can have if only we seek them with our eyes open.……….Jawaharlal Nehru
Here are a few extractions of what we have said about her before (fciwomenswrestling.com article Adventurous Kate Flies Solo). “She lives the life many wish they could. Adventurous Kate is her name. Risking it all and traveling is her game.”
She enlightens, “At age 26, I quit my job to travel the world alone. I spent six fantastic months in Southeast Asia and turned my travel blog into a full-time business. Today, I travel full-time, going anywhere that sounds wacky or beautiful or interesting. My goal is to show YOU how you can travel the world on your own — easily, safely, and adventurously.”
Here is what her LinkedIn shares about her.

There is a great need for the Kates of the world, even if there is only one. She’s very unique.
On May 2, 2014, telegraph.co.uk reported Half of British women said they are more likely to go away on their own than they were five years ago.
Nearly two thirds (64 per cent) said they now feel more confident when traveling alone, according to a survey of more than 1,000 British women for Booking.com.
Social media is playing a large part in encouraging women to travel, the poll said. Three quarters said social media allows them to unearth unusual restaurants or places to visit, fuelling their confidence to travel on their own.
Security is mostly a superstition. It does not exist in nature, nor do the children of men as a whole experience it. Avoiding danger is no safer in the long run than outright exposure. Life is either a daring adventure, or nothing.………..Helen Keller
On April 21, 2014, forbes.com shares women are “transforming entire industries from education to big data in some of the fastest growing private businesses.”
Consider tourism and travel, where experts agree that women are fueling an explosive growth, making 80% of decisions and expected to spend more than $125 billion this year.
Skift Travel adds there is an estimated 32 million single American women who have traveled at least once in the past year…The average adventure traveler is not a male but a 47-year-old female. Fueling this travel desire is the growth in single women. One-third of all women are now single “indies” – a new term for those over 27, not married, not living with a partner and without children.
At Female Competition International many of us already knew that women are traveling alone in greater numbers than ever before simply by our association in the women’s submission wrestling world where the competitors are soaring on planes or cruising in rental cars towards their next event or sponsored session.
Sometimes a lady can use a little help.
That’s where Kate can come to the rescue.
Just look at some of the countries she’s visited. North America: United States, Canada, Mexico. South America: Argentina. Europe: Austria, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Faroe Islands (Denmark), France, Germany, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Kosovo, Liechtenstein, Macedonia, Malta, Monaco, Montenegro, Netherlands, Portugal, San Marino, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, United Kingdom (England, Scotland, Wales), Vatican City. Africa: South Africa. Middle East: Jordan Southeast Asia: Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
This would make a noble mission statement and marketing shingle and Kate says it well. “Life’s too short to have regrets. That’s why I like to live the most interesting life possible by traveling the world on my own and saying yes to just about anything. If there’s an adventure available, I’ll go for it. I believe that it’s best to teach by example, and my ultimate goal is to show women that independent and solo travel can be safe, easy, and a lot of fun.”
That’s a thought provoking quote Kate.
This writer has raised two children, one graduating from Princeton and Oxford in England and the other finished high school with an above 4.0 GPA and finished as the number one ranked senior in California in the fiercely competitive men’s 100 meter track and field event. I’ve spent twenty years in an international faith based organization mostly in a leadership position before departing permanently. I essentially lived a life I thought I was supposed to as opposed to a life that I wanted to.
A major turning point came for me in 2008 when I dipped my toes in what I viewed as risky waters and decided to attend Jackpin’s masterpiece women’s wrestling convention at the Marriott Hotel in San Diego. Before attending I was collaborating with a fellow student in my Spanish class who happened to be beautiful and 23 years old.
In private conversations I had previously shared with her my honorable life pathways that inevitably led to the happiness and success of others, some less fortunate, and now I was hesitant to tell her that I was going to attend a women’s wrestling convention when the traditional Friday afternoon question comes up; “Hey what are you doing this weekend?”
She asked the traditional question.
I hesitated and finally stammered, “I’m going to a women’s wrestling convention in San Diego.”[adToAppearHere]
I waited for the expected look of female disgust and scorn to shade her face like a large cloud temporarily covering the cracked sun baked dirt on a sweltering summer Texas day. To my shock that did not occur. Instead she calmly said something that deeply depressed me ten times more than any feminine scolding. She looked into my eyes and stated……
“So you’re finally doing something for yourself.”[adToAppearHere]
I know what you’re thinking because I’ve heard the expression so often myself. You can have anything you want in life but you cannot have everything.
In my life I have had a multitude of sincere warm smiles and an ocean of deep regrets and I know you cannot have everything, but I gotta tell you……
I think the Kates of the world are on to something.
