A visionary, Paulo Coelho is a Brazilian lyricist and novelist. He is the recipient of numerous international awards, amongst them the Crystal Award by the World Economic Forum. The Alchemist, his most famous novel, has been translated into 80 languages.
In terms of surprises he was once quoted as saying, “I have seen many storms in my life. Most storms have caught me by surprise, so I had to learn very quickly to look further and understand that I am not capable of controlling the weather, to exercise the art of patience and to respect the fury of nature.”
Many aspects of modern life are predictable but fortunately it is still full of surprises.
One such wonderful surprise, and a fury of nature, is a young force that is shattering creative minds and wrestling records along the way.
It’s the USA Champion freestyle wrestler Adeline Gray.
Adeline is clearly a beautiful young woman who listens to her inner passions and does not let others, even well-meaning, deter her from her goals.
When she tried out for the boy’s wrestling team in Chatfield High School that raised eye brows and expectations. The Denver native excelled.[adToAppearHere]
A few years later she has achieved a gold medal at the World Wrestling Championships in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. It was her second gold medal since 2012, each in a different weight class.
She now has her eyes set on the winning the Olympic Gold and is laying a strong foundation that increases the chances of that happening.
According to an article in The Denver post, Ms. Gray, who wrestled at Chatfield but graduated from Bear Creek, is taking courses online through DeVry University, majoring in business. Her main focus is making the 2016 Olympic team, but she knows the world of women’s wrestling is not lucrative as a career choice. She is beginning to think of life after wrestling.
She has settled on what she wants to do yet, although she feels her life experiences could translate well into any number of businesses, especially the mentoring of kids. She also might consider a career in mixed martial arts.
On May 11, 2015 it was reported by universalsports.com that Adeline Gray dominated the 2015 U.S. Open Wrestling National Championships in Las Vegas.
The reigning world champion defeated Jackie Cataline, 15-4, in the 75 kg/165 lbs. final to win her first U.S. Open title since 2011.
When you research Adeline, read the articles written on her and watch her video interviews you can’t help but think that this young luminary with tons of energy is one Groovy Girl.
It’s great to make your own choices, but there’s a price to pay. I could’ve made more money or been more famous. I could be the current groovy guy.…..Michael Keaton
Groovy?
That’s right. Groovy. It’s a term that jolted out of the 1960’s but its color and array of positive connotations are timeless. It’s a phrase that was once often used and taken like a daily vitamin but do you know what it actually means?
According to numerous dictionaries, excellent, tubular, awesome or cool are modern expressions. It can also mean fashionable, exciting, enjoyable and excellent.
Wouldn’t you agree all of those qualities apply to Adeline?
We’re determined to convince you.[adToAppearHere]
Groovin’ through her Facebook, she likes the music of Beyonce, Eminem, piano and some country. Her taste in films includes the enjoyment of Black Swan (Agree, Agree!) The Hunger Games and the Blindside. In terms of sports, she was born in Denver so guess what is her favorite football team?
Very good class. You got that right.
FCI loves to travel with you, so why don’t we fly towards the Rocky Mountains and not just take a statistical look at Denver but a Groovy one.
Always a great source, Wikipedia shares, “Denver as of 2014, Denver is the most populous county in Colorado. Denver is located in the South Platte River Valley on the western edge of the High Plains just east of the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains.
Denver is nicknamed the Mile-High City because its official elevation is exactly one mile (5,280 feet or 1,609.344 meters) above sea level, making it one of the highest major cities in the United States.
Denver is ranked as a beta world city by the Globalization and World Cities Research Network. With a 2013 estimated population of 649,495, Denver ranks as the 22nd-most populous U.S. city.”
Thanks for the stats but what are some fun things to do in Denver besides watching the Broncos, Nuggets and Rockies.
According to the informative site Denver.org, “Denver Arts Week, held every November, is one of The Mile High City’s biggest – and best – annual events. It’s a weeklong festival, highlighting the city’s visual and performing arts, taking place at six neighborhood art districts, 20 museums and 100 art galleries.
More than anything, Denver Arts Week encourages Denverites to be tourists in their own town. It’s a convenient opportunity to check out the wide array of cultural offerings that are available year-round in The Mile High City. And it’s a bargain as well. All of the arts participants will offer discounts or special events during Arts Week. If you’ve never been to a First Friday art gallery walk, attended a production at a local theater, seen the Denver Art Museum or listened to an opera, this is the perfect week to do that.”
You see? How does Groovy compare to Denverites? That’s a group with a name that could put fear in the heart of any Klingon.
If anything I consider myself non-violent, I’m from the hippy era, peace, love, groovy.….Rick James
Tripadvisor.com shares a review from a Groovy person who attended the Colorado Symphony. “If you are visiting Denver, you shouldn’t miss their symphony. The hall has wonderful acoustics, and the symphony is world class”
Of course, the surrounding outdoor activities and natural beauties of Denver are legend.
We can understand why Adeline is such a fun and well-rounded girl. We can say girl because Adeline makes it clear in many interviews that she feels that women can wrestle at a very high level and still be considered feminine. She loves sun dresses, pink and glitter. Oh so groovy. She feels you can wear a skirt to school but be a beast on the mats.
We agree. Don’t you?
Adeline Gray is on a fast, fun and furious train ride to fight for the gold and shatter more records along the way.
In every way that we can, let’s cheer her on.
It’s a really groovy thing to do.
