Love is a many splendored thing especially when the fall begins to transition into the winter.
Forget about the cold. We have something that will chill you even more, but in a good way.
What we absolutely love about this time of year is that temporarily it allows us to eat what the heck we want knowing that we will promise with passion in January of the new year that we will work all of it off.
One of our favorite treats are pumpkin desserts of all kinds. There are so many articles and recipes on pumpkin pie that understandably gain our attention during this season but this time we want to walk a little off the beaten pumpkin patch path.
Guess where we slowly consumed one of the best Pumpkin Cheesecake Shakes of our lives?
Arby’s of all places.
You most likely have heard the authoritative James Earl Jones like voice on their television commercials but actually it’s the baritone of well-known Golden Globe winning actor, Ving Rhames.
Here it goes and we’ll do it in our deepest voice, “Arby’s, we have the meats.”
Boy they sure do. In wide varieties. Guess what else they have this time of year? A great pumpkin shake that they glow about at drmarbys.com, “It’s almost Winter and you know what that means: Debilitating sadness as you realize the cold days are here to stay. BUT! It also means it’s time for the great new Pumpkin Cheesecake Shake. This one shake combines all the flavors of Fall: pumpkin; cheesecake; pie crust; you know, all the Fall flavors.”
Yes we do know because we ate there. Drank there too. A pumpkin shake that is.
Loved it, loved it, and loved it.
Martha Stewart loves the pumpkin dessert concept too. At her always enjoyable site marthastewart.com she smiles, “A can of filling often yields more than what’s required for a pie. That extra puree, however, is just enough to blend into a delicious milk shake. Mix 1/2 cup pumpkin puree with 1 cup vanilla ice cream, 1/2 cup milk, and a pinch of cinnamon. Pumpkin fans will deem this creamy treat reason enough to open a can.”
That sounds like a great idea.
Now if you live in the Mid-West you must have heard about these guys.
Culver’s, is a privately owned and operated casual fast food restaurant chain that operates primarily in the Midwestern United States. Culver’s opened its first restaurant in 1984 in Sauk City, Wisconsin, and is currently headquartered in Prairie du Sac, Wisconsin. As of 26 August 2018, the chain had 669 restaurants across the United States, and 18 coming soon in 10 states.
Can they satisfy our pumpkin shake urge? Of course.
Here is what they are happy to share at culvers.com, “Thick, velvety and full of real pumpkin from the American Midwest heartland, we handcraft our Pumpkin Spice Shake with Fresh Frozen Custard so every sip is a perfect tribute to the fall.”
It looks so delicious.
“Let’s be honest: you can’t celebrate fall without its leading role – pumpkin! You can incorporate this flavor of the season in so many ways, from candles to lattes, pies to decorations.”… Rachel Hollis
Our love affair with Pumpkin Shakes would not be complete without viewing it from a completely natural approach and we came just to the right place at healthyslowcooking.com.
They share their recipe. Please listen in.
“This Vegan Pecan Pumpkin Shake is so easy to make and you don’t use any vegan ice cream to make it. It’s so rich and creamy that you’ll forget it’s actually healthy. In fact, it’s healthy enough to even be your morning smoothie.
This recipe is from my eBook, The Ghoulish Gourmet. You can get the Kindle version at Amazon for $7.95.
First, you make your own homemade pecan milk. I don’t bother straining it since I love any little pieces that sneak through in a shake. Then you add the pumpkin puree, ground chia seeds and spices.
Blend more and the ground chia seeds will start to make it a little thicker. They are what will keep the liquid incorporated with the ice, so be sure to include them. Add the crushed ice, blend and enjoy!
This shake is gluten-free, soy-free and has no added oil. It can even be made nut free for a completely allergy-free treat.”
We are feeling so motivated and excited.
Since we’re currently in healthy thinking mode, what are some of the benefits of eating pumpkins and her related products?
The experts at medicalnewstoday.com educate, “Pumpkin has a range of fantastic health benefits, including being one of the best-known sources of beta-carotene.
Beta-carotene is a powerful antioxidant. It also gives orange vegetables and fruits their vibrant color. The body converts any ingested beta-carotene into vitamin A.
Consuming foods rich in beta-carotene may reduce the risk of developing certain types of cancer, offer protection against asthma and heart disease, and delay aging and body degeneration.”
That is good to know.
“I would rather sit on a pumpkin and have it all to myself, than be crowded on a velvet cushion.”…Henry David Thoreau
Another source that is exceptional in advising us on healthy living is webmd.com. Regarding the benefits of eating sources of pumpkin they add, “Pumpkin’s brilliant orange coloring comes from its ample supply of beta-carotene, which is converted to vitamin A in the body. Vitamin A is essential for eye health and helps the retina absorb and process light. A single cup of pumpkin contains over 200 percent of most people’s recommended daily intake of vitamin A, making it an outstanding option for optical health.
Pumpkin also contains lutein and zeaxanthin, two antioxidants that are thought to help prevent cataracts and may even slow the development of macular degeneration.”
Exceptional information. We are going to keep our eyes on that.
A close relative to the Pumpkin Pie Shake is the Pumpkin Pie Smoothie and there are a ton of recipes online that you should check out.
Well, we are very happy that it is that time of year. We’ve pulled our black and orange sweater out of the closet and made a list that we are checking twice for all of the various restaurants, stores and fast food outlets where we can buy some unique Pumpkin Shakes.
If you see us beaming from a distance, with an orange milk mustache, it’s due to all of the pumpkin that we have been enjoying.
It just gives us an orange glow all over.
