March 4, 2021,
Like an expanding wave of dark ink that has left the bottle after the container was tipped over, the harshness of the times we are living in, from climate change to social rage and a devastating deadly pandemic, dark ink is spreading across the globe, shrinking the space we have to live a life of full enjoyment, peace and happiness.
That is why it is so important, now more than ever, that the fantasy world begin to expand again.
We need our escapes.
We need our fantasies.
We need Disney and all that they produce.
In terms of being exceptional fantasy makers and escapism masters, they are, well, magical.
Here are their expanding finger prints.
The company is known for its film studio division, The Walt Disney Studios, which includes Walt Disney Pictures, Walt Disney Animation Studios, Pixar, Marvel Studios, Lucasfilm, 20th Century Studios, Searchlight Pictures, and Blue Sky Studios.
Disney’s other main business units include divisions in television, broadcasting, streaming media, theme park resorts, consumer products, publishing, and international operations.
Through these various segments, Disney owns and operates the ABC broadcast network; cable television networks such as Disney Channel, ESPN, Freeform, FX, and National Geographic; publishing, merchandising, music, and theater divisions; direct-to-consumer streaming services such as Disney+, Hulu, ESPN+, and Hotstar; and Disney Parks, Experiences and Products, a group of 14 theme parks, resort hotels, and cruise lines around the world.
Drumroll please. Their Cartoon character Mickey Mouse, created in 1928 by Walt Disney and Ub Iwerks, is one of the world’s most recognizable characters and serves as the company’s official mascot.
One our most favorite places on the planet, Disney World, has long been touted as the Happiest Place on Earth and even during a pandemic, the House of Mouse is trying to keep up the magic.
With precautions.
As reported at cnn.com, “All Disney Parks require guests to wear masks, and some parks’ mask requirements are more stringent than others. For instance, Walt Disney World, Florida, mandates face coverings for everyone 2 or older, including people who have been vaccinated.
Every park has reduced capacity, and guests must take a temperature check on entry and observe social distancing at all times.”
To get a chance to indulge in the magic at Disney, it is a small price to pay.
Like many global companies during the pandemic, Disney has had its challenges.
The global coronavirus pandemic has crippled the domestic box office, forcing major studios to postpone blockbusters and place other important feature films on premium video on-demand or branded streaming services.
The team at marketwatch.com explain, “The Disney Parks, Experiences and Products unit took in $3.6 billion, down 53% year-over-year as many Disney parks and its cruise line remain closed. The flagship Disneyland Park in Anaheim, Calif., and Disneyland Paris will stay closed in the current quarter, Disney Chief Financial Officer Christine McCarthy said during the analyst call.”
By contrast Walt Disney Co.’s streaming service, Disney+, proved again to be a positive plus during a pandemic that has all but closed down Disney’s other businesses.
They are determined to bring the magic back. We wish them great success.
Fantasy magic removing dark ink. We’ll take that any day.
