January 25, 2022,
We will take any excuse we can to eat more ice cream.
We can think of a thousand of them. We sense that you can too.
How about this one.
The weather is getting better, the sun is out more often and spring is coming.
We can celebrate by eating more ice cream.
Indoors or out.
The team at dhakatribune.com adds, “The ice cream manufacturers of the country are witnessing great sales. This is largely due to the awareness campaigns suggesting how sweetened frozen food such as ice cream does not increase the risk of contracting a severe case of Covid-19.”
Neither does drinking coffee.
Eating pie.
Crunching fried chicken.
Savoring a greasy spoon hamburger.
See what we mean? Any excuse to eat more ice cream will do.
“When I have bad days, I just eat lots of chocolate ice cream and dance to the ‘Lion King’ soundtrack. It’s really odd, but it’s true.”…Quote Blake Lively
And to think, ice cream was made possible only by the discovery of the endothermic effect.
Prior to this, cream could only be chilled but not frozen. It was the addition of salt, that lowered the melting point of ice, which had the effect of drawing heat from the cream and allowing it to freeze.
You already knew that right?
Quaker colonists introduced ice cream to the United States, bringing their ice cream recipes with them. Confectioners sold ice cream at their shops in New York and other cities during the colonial era. Ben Franklin, George Washington, and Thomas Jefferson were known to have regularly eaten and served ice cream.
Before the development of modern refrigeration, ice cream was a luxury reserved for special occasions. Making it was quite laborious; ice was cut from lakes and ponds during the winter and stored in holes in the ground, or in wood-frame or brick ice houses, insulated by straw.
It is not wise to take ice cream for granted.
As many flavors as we have, we still want more.
For those who are older, we can remember the days when you had three basic choices.
Chocolate, Vanilla and Strawberry.
Now, from Butter Pecan to Coconut, we have so many options and guess what? Those options are about to increase.
As reported at foodnetwork.com, “Six ice cream masters from across the country have been hand-picked for a once in a lifetime opportunity: to create an original Ben & Jerry’s ice cream flavor of their own. Ben & Jerry’s: Clash of the Cones premieres with a special 90-minute episode on Monday, August 16th at 9|8c on Food Network and discovery+.”
Sounds like fun and when it comes to delicious ice cream, wonders will never cease.
They add, in the premiere episode, six ice cream competitors are challenged to start their journey at the end, when they must resurrect flavors from the Ben & Jerry’s Flavor Graveyard to use in their creations. Then, actor Kevin Bacon challenges the competitors to make a flavor in his name that incorporates up to six degrees of ingredients.
Worth binge watching, while you eat ice cream.
When it comes to ice cream, there is more creativity afoot.
