August 16, 2022,
Wish upon wish, we strongly wish that the Super Girl television series has success.
We love our female heroines. This has been an exciting decade for Lady Super Heroes on the silver screen including Wonder Woman, Jessica Jones, Batwoman and our lovely girl here.
Supergirl is an American superhero television series developed by Ali Adler, Greg Berlanti and Andrew Kreisberg that originally aired on CBS and premiered on October 26, 2015.
It is based on the DC Comics character Supergirl, created by Otto Binder and Al Plastino, and stars Melissa Benoist in the title role.
With an added twist, Supergirl is a costumed superheroine who is Superman‘s cousin and one of the last surviving Kryptonians, a humanoid species that hail from the destroyed planet Krypton.
The series is the third series set in the Arrowverse, sharing continuity with the other television series of the franchise.
The series was officially picked up on May 6, 2015, after receiving a series commitment in September 2014, and received a full season order on November 30, 2015. Since the second season, the series has aired on The CW.
The show has received generally positive reviews from critics, who have praised the creative direction, the performances, and the themes addressed.
Our dream has come true. In January pf 2019, the series was renewed for a fifth season, which premiered on October 6, 2019.
Five seasons for most television series is rarified air.
Supergirl lasted six.
Super showing for Supergirl. The leading lady has really brought this cartoon character to serious life.
Our sexy star, Melissa Marie Benoist, has performed on stage and in television and film.
Ms. Benoist rose to prominence for her portrayal of Marley Rose on the Fox musical comedy-drama television series Glee (2013–14).
She appeared in films such as Whiplash (2014), Danny Collins (2015), The Longest Ride (2015), Patriots Day (2016), Lowriders (2016), and Sun Dogs (2017), and she portrayed David Koresh‘s wife Rachel Jones in the miniseries Waco (2018).
Away from the set Melissa is involved in a mental health awareness movement called ‘I Don’t Mind’
We would like to be educated about their purpose.
If you don’t mind, we would like to share.
At idontmind.com they illuminate, “IDONTMIND is a mental health awareness campaign and lifestyle brand working to defeat the stigma around mental illness. Our goal is to get people talking about their minds and to generate positive messaging about mental health.
IDONTMIND is an official program of Mental Health America, the nation’s leading community-based nonprofit dedicated to promoting the overall mental health of all Americans. With over 200 affiliates and associates in 42 states, 6,500 affiliate staff and over 10,000 volunteers, MHA brings over 100 years of experience and knowledge to IDONTMIND.”
Good for Melissa. Good for people suffering with mental health concerns. It is a very nice and extremely important cause.
It helps us feel more comfortable about Melissa’s Super Girl mission because on that long running show, she has a lot of challenges to keep saving humanity, over and over again from sunny Southern California.
What gives?
The aliens and villains keep trying to destroy the entire world from one sunny geographical location.
And here we thought that only various people on earth didn’t like Hollywood.
Guess there are tons of aliens who don’t either.
That’s why we need Supergirl.
Will you like watching Supergirl? Based upon how brilliant Melissa is, the answer is probably yes but mostly it depends upon what type of comic book heroine story that you crave.
Among many, what are the two most prominent types?
We take a lead from the Batman Begins franchise.
Batman Begins is a 2005 film directed by Christopher Nolan and written by Nolan and David S. Goyer.
It stars Christian Bale, Michael Caine, Liam Neeson, Katie Holmes, Gary Oldman, Cillian Murphy, Tom Wilkinson, Rutger Hauer, Ken Watanabe, and Morgan Freeman.
The film rebooted the Batman film series, which sorely needed it after the previous recent Batman film debacles, by telling the origin story of Bruce Wayne from the death of his parents to his journey to become Batman and his fight to stop Ra’s al Ghul and the Scarecrow from plunging Gotham City into chaos.
What sets this film apart is that it is grounded with very formidable but human villains that Batman has to defeat in very creative and humanly practical ways.
No scientific death rays, gamma rays or other fantastical gismos created from super human origins.
He doesn’t even use a gun.
That was a welcome relief. It made the story far more believable. We love cartoon comic based tales and super heroes as long as it doesn’t stray too far into the outer worldly realm. As long as it stays fairly close to real life.
Supergirl is different.
People still love it otherwise it wouldn’t have survived six seasons but we find it challenging.
Why?
Talk about whimsically fantastical. This series is it. The abilities and weapons displayed by the aliens are mind boggling and Supergirl’s ability to withstand their barrage stretches the imagination.
It’s tons of fun. Just not believable. Unless you love fantastical.
If you do, then this is the series for you.
We loved the early stages of Jessica Jones.
Finding a wonderful home on Netflix, Marvel’s Jessica Jones is an American web television series by Melissa Rosenberg, based on the Marvel Comics character of the same name.
It is set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), sharing continuity with the films of the franchise, and is the second in a series of shows that led to The Defenders crossover miniseries.
Sultry raven haired Krysten Ritter stars as Jessica Jones, a former superhero who opens her own detective agency.
When we first watched the series, her adventures occurred in human terms within human realms. Yes, she could lift a car up with on hand but at least not with her eyes.
As the series went on the super villain’s power seemed to become more fantastical and out worldly that it seemed impossible for Jessica to fend him off.
But that’s just us.
Supergirl is fun to watch if you can get past the peculiarities.
We like super heroines that do not tell everyone who they really are in real life. Like Bruce Wayne and Batman. Like Batwoman is trying hard to do, but not succeeding.
Supergirl however seems to tell all of her friends and relatives who she really is.
Girls love to talk. This girl in particular.
We guess that is one approach.
Anyway, watch Sueprgirl. You will love Melissa. How can anyone not.
As far as the fantastical and whimsical?
Just relax, have fun and stay away from the krypton.
