December 4, 2022,
Have we seen it before?
Have you seen it before?
Maybe not the exact same film but the Online Influencer Mockumentary is a trail electronically blazed a long time ago.
Still, if done well, it still has a certain fascination.
Part of the reason is that major brands, paying major money, are still looking for influencers to sell their products.
As reported by ladybossblogger.com, “BRAND AMBASSADORS tend to have smaller social media audiences and generally purchase the product at a discounted price. They earn money when they successfully get people to purchase products from the company using their personal promo code.”
We like watching movies about them, as well as Influencers, who tend to have a larger audience.
If you need your influencer fix, you can always watch the Kardashians on Hulu along with The D’Amelio Show.
This newer offering on Netflix caught our eye.
The American Meme is a 2018 American documentary film that explores the lifestyle and trajectory of four social media influencers.
The film was directed, produced and written by Bert Marcus, and follows Paris Hilton, Emily Ratajkowski, DJ Khaled and Josh Ostrovsky as they work to create commercial brands out of their online presence.
The purchase was recorded as one of the most high-profile documentary acquisitions of 2018.
You see, we are not alone. There are other Influencer junkies out there.
The American Meme explores the online footprint and behind the scenes stories of four social media celebrities who have each utilized online platforms to gain followers and become ‘influencers’ in the digital age.
We can’t help but watch.
Now, it gets deep.
The documentary film raises the idea of modern alienation under capitalism and explores various diverse material on the likes of Paris Hilton, Josh Ostrovsky, Brittany Furlan and Kirill Bichutsky’s rise to fame, strategies to maintain influence in social media spaces and difficulties in maintaining this influence and the use of social media as a source of income.
We suppose that can be challenging.
Another film about an Influencer Junkie, that we loved, because we can relate, is Ingrid Goes West.
Ingrid Goes West is a 2017 American comedy drama film directed by Matt Spicer and written by Spicer and David Branson Smith.
The film stars Aubrey Plaza, Elizabeth Olsen, Billy Magnussen, Wyatt Russell, Pom Klementieff, and O’Shea Jackson Jr., and follows a young woman who moves to Los Angeles in an effort to befriend her Instagram idol.
We haven’t done that yet, but we’ve thought about it.
The film premiered in competition at the 2017 Sundance Film Festival, where it won the Waldo Salt Screenwriting Award. The film received positive reviews, with many praising the script, dark themes, humor, and performances.
Told you. Lots of Influencer junkies out there.
The final confrontation between the Influencer and her stalker is priceless.
So, this brings us to the point.
There is another Influencer film out there will a preposterous plot and yet, you know what, we’ve got to watch it.
Check it out.
