December 16, 2022,
It is a realm of its own.
Only in our heads?
We can’t touch it. Feel it. See it. Can’t talk to it.
Sometimes so obsessed with it, we talk about it all during the week.
Yet, we live for it.
Can’t wait for it. Especially if you have a job you hate that occupies your weekdays.
Living for the weekend.
The sensational young singer Madison McWilliams sings about it so well.
“Streamers on the floor
Solo cups galore
From the night before
Friday Saturday
Strobe lights on display
Weekdays are so grey
But I’m not about that life
No no no
All I see are the blue skies
Indigo
Even clouds have silver lines
Oh oh oh
Won’t you open up your eyes
You’re living for the weekend
Party hard no thinking
Lifeboat is now sinking
Cause you’re living for the
Living for the
Weekend”
Does that describe your weekend? Partying hard with no thinking?
Mattie, in our circle, lived that life for a long time before she took the risk and changed jobs to one that she liked much more.
Everything changed.
It was amazing to her how the days blend together when you do what you like during the week.
Who said anything about love?
Even liking your job during the week is incredible.
When she was working out at the gym, she heard Madison’s hit and smiled.
That was a life she used to have.
Madison McWilliams is an American pop singer and songwriter best known for the songs “Melodramatic” and our favorite, “Living for the Weekend”.
Madison was born and raised in Austin, Texas.
Go Aggies. Oops, Longhorns.
She began singing and playing piano at a young age, then performing Italian opera and in musical theatre throughout her school years. At age 11, she trained with the Broadway Artists Alliance program under Tony Award-winning instructors in New York City.
That will sure make your weekends exciting.
If you are living for the weekend, Sunday night has some harsh edges around it, almost like a fence with barb wire because you know what the next day will bring.
For most people, the weekend becomes so important because of what they are doing during the week.
Hanging in there.
Surviving.
Is that really a way to live life?
Now, we could take this subject many directions, the most prominent one, how to get a job that you love, and that is not a bad idea. A possible alternate pathway is to pursue a business that you love but most of those fail.
So, let’s work with what we have. How can you live your current life so that you don’t have the hanging in there or just surviving mentality?
Let’s walk over to the bookstore.
Stop Surviving, Start Living: The Shmuz on Life 1 Paperback – June 1, 2014
By Rabbi Ben Tzion Shafier (Author)
“Ask someone today, “How are you doing?” and you will hear some interesting responses. “Hanging in there.” “Surviving.” That is a reaction you would expect from a man who just found out he has terminal cancer and has six months to live. How do you explain it coming from people living in the lap of luxury, enjoying wealth, freedom, and almost limitless opportunities? Hanging in there? Surviving?! More than a mere expression, it is indicative of a deep dissatisfaction just beneath the surface. That’s not the way it’s supposed to be. It’s not the way Hashem wants it to be. The Shmuz on Life offers a road map and the inspiration to create a life of meaning and purpose — to stop merely surviving and start really living.”
We like that.
Create a life of meaning and purpose.
Especially when you are young.
Let’s look at this enjoying the week discussion from another angle.
Every Monday Matters: How to Kick Your Week Off with Passion, Purpose, and Positivity (Inspirational Self-Help Book) (Ignite Reads) Hardcover – January 1, 2019

- Conversation starters to help you connect with others and grow through collaboration
- Journal entry prompts to promote self-reflection and help you monitor your growth”
Magnificent. Love the positive ideas and clear direction.
One of the keys in Mr. Emerzian’s story appears to be about giving. Not being overly immersed with self.
Have you thought about volunteering or being a part of an organization that helps others?
We have volunteered at two different hospitals in Northern California, for two years each, and one of the aspects about the experience that we liked was the higher quality of people that we met.
Sometimes, one or more of them can become lifelong friends.
In our sensational singer Madison McWilliams case, research indicates she is an official Make-A-Wish ambassador for Texas, and wrote her song “Fighter” as a tribute to the Make-A-Wish Children.
She also headlined Make A Wish’s World Wish Day in 2017, Macy’s BELIEVE Campaign and Annual Wish Night in 2018, the latter of which raised over $1 million. She is also the official spokesperson for the Art of Kindness campaign, which is partnered with Lady Gaga’s Born This Way Foundation.
Is it possible the misery of the week with a focus to living it up on the weekend would lessen if we were involved in helping others less fortunate? Looking beyond self?
Maybe you should look in to it.
It just might place you in a position to enjoy both the week and the weekend.
