January 2, 2023,
It will takes years to build up, but it is absolutely worth the effort.
If you do it right, it will worth it in so many ways beneficial.
Your reputation is of massive importance.
If you are a young high school or college student, now is the time to begin thinking about taking steps to build your reputation. Understanding the elements of what it is will increase your ability to achieve that goal more efficiently.
What is a reputation?
A reputation is the important beliefs or opinions that are generally held about someone or something.
If that someone is you, it is in your best interest to have those important opinions or beliefs be very good ones.
Ultimately it can be worth millions.
Sometimes worth things you cannot place a dollar figure on.
Money can’t buy you love but a good reputation may open a wider door to the possibilities of it.
One of the important aspects of friendship and love relationship introductions are based upon people’s beliefs and opinions about you.
Inventing Anna is an American drama television miniseries created and produced by Shonda Rhimes, inspired by the story of Anna Sorokin and the article in New York titled “How Anna Delvey Tricked New York’s Party People” by Jessica Pressler.
Party people? Talk about the importance of a person’s standing and reputation.
Here is the storyline.
Under the assumed name Anna Delvey, Russian-born Anna Sorokin is able to con members of New York City’s upper crust into believing she is a German heiress with access to a substantial fortune. She uses this persona to receive hundreds of thousands of dollars in cash, goods and services while working towards her goal of opening an exclusive art-themed club.
We watched the entire series. Binged watched. It is perplexing what people are willing to do, based upon their opinion of you.
In this case, without virtually any facts. No real evidence either.
So many financially well off intelligent people gave Anna substantial amounts of money based upon her word of mouth reputation.
Intriguing story.
The experts at psychologytoday.com explain, “Reputation can affect the course of a teenager’s life. For example, think of the last-stage adolescent (around ages 18-23) beginning to make their way in the world of work and applying for another job. Now a reference or recommendation provides positively valuable testimony to their reputation.”
Very true.
So, in a positive and honest way, how can you build your reputation, especially if you are young?
Start with the basics.
Get in the habit of being honest about everything. Be very consistent at keeping your word. If you say something, do it. Walk the walk. Back up the talk. If you make a promise, keep it.
Make no mistake about it. In the circles that you walk in, that knowledge about you will spread.
Another important reputation pathway.
Build your credit.
Though your school report card is important, the longer you live, the less anyone cares about it.
On the other hand, the longer you live, more and more people will examine your credit report and form an opinion as to whether they will take a risk on you.
Perhaps start with a basic credit card that you don’t rely upon but simply use to make small purchases that you can easily pay off. Your purpose in having it is to build your credit reputation.
It will help you buy a car.
Get a personal loan.
Buy a home.
It’s not your report card, it is how you build a reputation with your credit card.
As you build your reputation in the early stages of your life, you will eventually move on in your career.
Time for some further insight. Let’s walk over to the bookstore.
