January 30, 2023,
The lemon pie was incredible. Make that, beyond incredible.
The chocolate cake was to die for. Made life worth living.
The coconut cake was deliciously special. Right out of the family oven.
The dressing and cranberry sauce was a perfect mixture.
We could go on but we think you get the point.
The holiday season brings out the goodies. Often homemade. As tasty as those dishes are, they are not exactly highly ranked on the good health meter. As much as we would love to, we can’t eat like that forever.
Once the New Year begins, it’s time to get serious.
Are you ready to get serious about your healthy eating?
Then it is time to focus on fiber.
Nothing speaks more to healthy eating than eating choice foods that provide bulk to your diet.
The team at mayoclinic.org educate, “Foods containing fiber can provide other health benefits as well, such as helping to maintain a healthy weight and lowering your risk of diabetes, heart disease and some types of cancer.”
Grateful for the info.
The informative source livestrong.com adds, “Soluble fiber is found in oat bran, nuts, seeds, beans, peas, lentils and some fruits and vegetables, such as carrots and apples.”
Welcome news. We love most of the foods on that list.
How about you?
One our team members shared that she focused on pumpkin seeds, wheat bran, bananas, peanut butter and crackers along with sunflower seeds to help provide bulk and found that those foods helped tremendously.
It was like taking a good medicine without the side effects.
When you look at the foods on those lists, how are you doing?
Do you need to add a few more bulk enhancing foods to the list?
We desire more information from experts. Time to walk to the book store.
The Fiber Effect: Stop Counting Calories and Start Counting Fiber for Better Health Paperback – February 17, 2021

The food we eat is what powers our bodies—the better we eat, the better we look, feel and perform. The Fiber Effect includes:

Should we eat more fiber?
Of course we should. Great ideas there.
Time for another one.
Fiber Fueled: The Plant-Based Gut Health Program for Losing Weight, Restoring Your Health, and Optimizing Your Microbiome Hardcover – May 12, 2020
By Will Bulsiewicz MD (Author)
“The instant New York Times, USA Today, and Publisher’s Weekly bestseller
A bold new plant-based plan that challenges popular keto and paleo diets, from an award-winning gastroenterologist.
The benefits of restrictive diets like paleo and keto have been touted for more than a decade, but as renowned gastroenterologist Dr. Will Bulsiewicz, or “Dr. B,” illuminates in this groundbreaking book, the explosion of studies on the microbiome makes it abundantly clear that elimination diets are in fact hazardous to our health. What studies clearly now show–and what Dr. B preaches with his patients–is that gut health is the key to boosting our metabolism, balancing our hormones, and taming the inflammation that causes a host of diseases. And the scientifically proven way to fuel our guts is with dietary fiber from an abundant variety of colorful plants.
Forget about the fiber your grandmother used to take–the cutting-edge science on fiber is incredibly exciting. As Dr. B explains, fiber energizes our gut microbes to create powerhouse post biotics called short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) that are essential to our health. SCFAs are scientifically proven to promote weight loss, repair leaky gut, strengthen the microbiome, optimize the immune system, reduce food sensitivities, lower cholesterol, reverse type 2 diabetes, improve brain function, and even prevent cancer. Restrictive fad diets starve the gut of the critical fiber we need, weaken the microbes, and make our system vulnerable.
As a former junk-food junkie, Dr. B knows firsthand the power of fiber to dramatically transform our health. The good news is that our guts can be trained. Fiber-rich, real foods–with fruits, vegetables, whole grains, seeds, nuts, and legumes–start working quickly and maintain your long-term health, promote weight loss, and allow you to thrive and feel great from the inside out.
With a 28-day jumpstart program with menus and more than 65 recipes, along with essential advice on food sensitivities, Fiber Fueled offers the blueprint to start turbocharging your gut for lifelong health today.”
We sure miss those junk food junkie days.
That can only last so long before your body revolts.
If you don’t see the food you love here, you might want to do more research on fiber and foods that add bulk to your diet.
Don’t wait until you have a health crisis to change your diet. Now is the time to focus on your healthy diet, especially if you are young and in good health.
The holidays are indeed a fun time to briefly splurge, like a food vacation, but as is often the case, no matter how great the vacation is, at some point you need to come back home.
