March 21, 2023,
You have good reason to be optimistic.
First of all, if you are young, that alone is a supreme reason to be optimistic. Most likely?
You have your health.
In many ways, this is the best you will ever look in your life.
Good looking people find you attractive.
From social circles to fraternities, this is probably the widest circle of friends you will have.
Though there are many challenging things going on in the world, focus on what you can control.
Stay optimistic.
It is better than being pessimistic.
The team at psychologytoday.com educates, “People with a pessimistic self-explanatory style are also at an increased risk for developing posttraumatic stress and depression when adversity strikes—as well as for losing their motivation when they fail.”
In many ways, when adversity strikes, it can be viewed as devastating or an opportunity and challenge that if you overcome it, it will make you a stronger, wiser and more successful person.
Just ask Emily.
Emily in Paris is an American romantic comedy-drama television series created by Darren Star for Netflix.
Here comes the fun part.
Set in Paris, the series stars Lily Collins as an aspiring marketing executive Emily Cooper, an American who moves to France to provide an American point of view to a French marketing firm.
There, she struggles to succeed in the workplace while searching for love and experiencing a culture clash with her conventional Midwestern U.S. upbringing.
She must learn to adapt and overcome the challenges that arise within her work, love life, and friendships.
That’s an understatement.
She learns to balance her work-life with her personal-life all while attempting to fit in with the Paris lifestyle.
Lots of challenges there but what we love so much about Emily is that she meets those challenges with a positive spirit and as she overcomes them, she grows as a person.
That is something really important to remember. It is the challenges in life that help us grow.
It is wise to teach our children to be optimistic.
The informative source kidshealth.org analyzes, “Researchers have spent a lot of time studying people who think positively. It turns out that an optimistic attitude helps us be happier, more successful, and healthier. Optimism can protect against depression — even for people who are at risk for it.”
Children and teenagers are often at risk for feeling depression.
The United States Center for Disease Control states, “Occasionally being sad or feeling hopeless is a part of every child’s life. However, some children feel sad or uninterested in things that they used to enjoy, or feel helpless or hopeless in situations they are able to change. When children feel persistent sadness and hopelessness, they may be diagnosed with depression.”
This is a great opportunity for parents, to show by example and their own personal story, about how to overcome depression. That few things that cause depression are permanent. The causes of depression can be used as a learning experience.
At this point we love to turn to the experts.
Let’s walk over to the bookstore.
Speaking of personal examples, this appears to be a good one.
Relentless Optimism: How a Commitment to Positive Thinking Changes Everything (Sports for the Soul) Paperback – July 26, 2017
By Darrin Donnelly (Author)
“Studies prove that positive thinkers are happier, healthier, and more successful than everyone else. Discover the simple, proven techniques for becoming a more positive person…
Positive thinking leads to positive outcomes. Study after study proves this. Researchers have found that optimistic people live longer, live healthier, have more energy, have more successful careers, make better decisions, are more productive, are less stressed, have healthier relationships, and (not surprisingly) are much happier than pessimists.
However, a lot has been misunderstood about what it means to be a positive thinker and what it takes to maintain an optimistic mindset. It takes a lot more than repeating feel-good platitudes to make positive thinking work in your life. It takes discipline, commitment, and a proper understanding of what optimism really means in a world that is constantly throwing new challenges at us.
This is a book for anyone who has ever questioned whether positive thinking really “works.”
It’s also a book for those who have tried to develop a more positive attitude, but have found it difficult to eliminate the voices of fear, doubt, and cynicism.
This is a book for anyone who wants to put optimism to work in their life with practical, proven techniques.
In this inspirational fable, you’ll meet Bobby Kane, a 31-year-old minor league baseball player who realizes his dream of making it to the majors is finally coming to a disappointing end. His dream, he believes, was not meant to be.
That is, until Bobby meets an unconventional manager named Wally Hogan. More mental coach than baseball manager, Wally teaches Bobby that if you want to change your life, you have to first change your thinking.
As you’ll see in this book, developing a positive mindset gives Bobby a renewed chance to make his dreams come true—not just in baseball, but in all areas of his life.
Wally teaches Bobby what it means to be an optimist and what it takes to maintain a positive attitude through the ups and downs of life. He teaches him proven, real-world techniques for building and sustaining optimism. These methods have an immediate impact on Bobby’s life and they will have an immediate impact on yours as well.
This book will show you just how powerful a positive attitude can be and it will teach you how to use positive thinking to make your biggest dreams come true.”
We are all for that.
This is going well. Let’s look at one more book.
