April 2, 2023,
How a person responds to this question says a lot about who they are internally.
Do you work as hard when people are watching you as to when they are not?
Hopefully the answer is yes.
This is one mindset that will carry you through the rest of your life. It will determine how well you retire or otherwise.
Develop a hard-working and honest mindset early. It will be a habit that will carry you through a more successful life.
The team at psychologytoday.com offers, “Effective leaders who build trust understand there is a difference between something legal and something ethical, something in compliance and something fair, something one turns a blind eye to, and something one is compelled to address.”
Exceptional points.
In terms of your work ethic, do the right thing, not because you are forced to, but because, based upon your personal principles, you want to.
We have an associate in our circle, now middle age, who has been working since he was twelve years old.
Fulltime.
One of the benefits to having that kind of work ethic is that you always have money to purchase the things that you want. You have peace of mind because you have been saving money for years and can weather most financial storms and people are attracted to your company because you don’t have one sob story after another regarding money.
What are some of the elements of a strong work ethic?
Show up on time.
Work hard when you are not being watched.
Be cooperative with your teammates.
Don’t take a lot of sick leave, even if you can.
When needed, be open to working overtime.
If you behave, in the above ways, in an employment environment, your chances of keeping your job greatly increases.
Those are our thoughts. Let’s turn to some experts.

Do the Work: Overcome Resistance and Get Out of Your Own Way Paperback – March 13, 2015
By Steven Pressfield (Author), Seth Godin (Foreword)
“There is an enemy. There is an intelligent, active, malign force working against us. Step one is to recognize this. This recognition alone is enormously powerful. It saved my life, and it will save yours.” – Steven Pressfield.
“Could you be getting in your way of producing great work? Have you started a project but never finished? Would you like to do work that matters, but don’t know where to start? The answer is Do the Work, a manifesto by bestselling author Steven Pressfield, that will show you that it’s not about better ideas, it’s about actually doing the work. Do the Work is a weapon against Resistance – a tool that will help you take action and successfully ship projects out the door.
Picking up where The War of Art and Turning Pro left off, Do The Work takes the reader from the start to the finish of any long-form project—novel, screenplay, album, software piece, you name it.
Do The Work identifies the predictable Resistance Points along the way and walks you through each of them. No, you are not crazy. No, you are not alone. No, you are not the first person to “hit the wall” in Act Two. Do The Work charts the territory. It’s the stage-by-stage road map for taking your project from Page One to THE END.”
Great perspective.
Finishing projects and work assignments.
That is something that our associate did, but we didn’t analyze that aspect of hard work. It is important to finish the assignments that your employer gives you to the best of your ability. If you are self-employed, it is very important to finish your assignment to your customer’s satisfaction.
We can’t say enough how in our circle, we’ve contracted out with others who do not take pride in their work nor finish what they started.
We never give them a second chance.
Time for a second opinion from a hard work ethic authority.
Reviving Work Ethic: A Leader’s Guide to Ending Entitlement and Restoring Pride in the Emerging Workplace Hardcover – August 18, 2020
By Eric Chester (Author)
“For frustrated managers and leaders, a guide to instilling a strong work ethic in the modern workforce.
Work ethic in America is fast declining, plaguing young and old alike. But in Reviving Work Ethic, Eric Chester shows that you do best to focus on your young employees those whose habits and ideals can still be influenced. He presents an incisive look at the root of the entitlement mentality that afflicts many in the merging workforce and shows you the specific actions you can take to give your employees a deep commitment to performing excellent work.
And his advice is crucial to a healthy bottom line: too often, talented but difficult-to-understand younger workers stand between your company and its profits. If business owners, managers, and executives are not connecting with them and modeling the key components of work ethic, employees are likely not connecting effectively with customer leaving all kinds of money on the table.
Reviving Work Ethic is the culmination of years of research as well as presentations to over two million youth. Chester s experience shows in his confident analysis of the seven components of work ethic and in his proven strategies for handing them down to young employees.”
That is the larger view. Intriguing.
We are learning a lot.
One more.
