April 28, 2023,
Life is so different when you give your best.
It is so much better.
Win, lose or draw. Why?
You learn a lot.
You improve upon your mistakes.
Others admire what you are doing.
Sometimes imitate you.
Then there is the improvement of your situation.
In terms of education, you compete better when you give your best and if you have high goals and aspirations, just to be competitive with the elite, you have to give your best.
No other choice.
The team at psychologytoday.com admonish, “When you walk your talk and do the right things, it makes your world a better place, both for you and for those you care about.”
We certainly agree with that.
Then, there are your memories.
If you are fortunate enough to get older, at some point, your memories are some of the most important thoughts of your present. Even if you try and push some of them out of your mind, they do persist in scaling their way back to the top.
They are also very persistent in breaking through the barrier walls of your dreams.
It gets real simple.
If you did the best you could, when it really mattered, you will feel good about it.
If you gave a mediocre effort, your dreams will haunt you. Why?
Because you have run out of second chances to do it right and now you have to live with that.
Coming from those of us who are older, especially to the young? Give your best, right here and right now. If you get knocked down, then you absolutely have to get back up.
Some say life is not a competition but we absolutely do not agree.
From the time we are young, we are competing at school to attract the person we have fallen in love with.
We are competing at sports, especially in high school, where we will never get a second chance to do it twice.
We are competing against others to get into the best colleges we can.
We are competing to secure the best jobs that we can that myriads are also applying for.
We could go on, but we think you get the point.
Time to go to the movies and be inspired.
Million Dollar Baby is a 2004 American sports drama film directed, co-produced, scored by and starring Clint Eastwood from a screenplay written by Paul Haggis, based on stories from the 2000 collection Rope Burns: Stories from the Corner by F.X. Toole, the pen name of fight manager and cut man Jerry Boyd. It also stars Hilary Swank and Morgan Freeman.
The film follows Margaret “Maggie” Fitzgerald (Swank), an underdog amateur boxer who is helped by an underappreciated boxing trainer (Eastwood) to achieve her dream of becoming a professional.
Million Dollar Baby was theatrically released on December 15, 2004, by Warner Bros. Pictures. It received critical acclaim and grossed $216.8 million worldwide. The film garnered seven nominations at the 77th Academy Awards and won four: Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actress (for Swank), and Best Supporting Actor (for Freeman).
What we liked most about the film was that people who had previously made big mistakes, realized that life had given them a second chance, and this time around, they needed to give their absolute best to achieve their dream.
It was a team effort.
That is why you also practice giving your best. At some point, if you are working with a team of people, it is critical to do so.
Develop the habit early.
Let’s walk over to the book store.
Reaching Your Potential: Personal and Professional Development (Textbook-specific CSFI) 4th Edition
By Robert K. Throop (Author), Marion B. Castellucci (Author)
“REACHING YOUR POTENTIAL takes a holistic approach to helping students take control of their lives and improve their self-belief. The text is organized around the four areas of emotional, intellectual, physical and social potentials.
Through a process of learning and self-examination, students discover their values, increase their commitment to personal goals, and challenge themselves to grow and learn. While gaining practical knowledge and skills, students will discover their emotional, intellectual, physical, and social resources.
This model, which is thematically integrated throughout the text, allows readers to emerge from their learning experience understanding the importance of developing each of these areas in order to reach their fullest potential. The text involves readers in active learning with self-assessments, activities that apply concepts to their own lives, questions that test comprehension, and case studies to foster critical-thinking skills.”
Makes good sense.
One more.
