For the things important in life, getting results is essential.
It gets real simple.
You are a person who can influence people to do what you want them to do, or, you are not effective at it.
If it is the latter, things can change.
If you are influenced to change your methods, going forward, you may get much better results.
Here is what the informative team at psychologytoday.com explains, “Persuasion plays a critical role in personal relationships. Persuasion promotes cooperation. Time is a powerful persuasion technique. The more time we spend with others, the more we are able to influence them.”
Very important point.
In terms of employment, many people dread sales, especially like a boiler room environment, like a Call Center.
We dread that too. So we won’t take you through that.
There is another route.
What about Public Relations?
It’s not what you say, it’s how you say it. Image is everything.
In that industry, if you can become effective at influencing people, you are worth your weight in gold.
Time for two films.
Wag the Dog is a 1997 American political satire black comedy film produced and directed by Barry Levinson and starring Dustin Hoffman and Robert De Niro.
The film centers on a spin doctor and a Hollywood producer who fabricate a war in Albania to distract voters from a presidential sex scandal. The screenplay by Hilary Henkin and David Mamet was loosely adapted from Larry Beinhart‘s 1993 novel, American Hero.
Talk about a need to persuade.
Wag the Dog was released one month before the outbreak of the Clinton–Lewinsky scandal and the subsequent bombing of the Al-Shifa pharmaceutical factory in Sudan by the Clinton administration in August 1998, which prompted the media to draw comparisons between the film and reality.
How well did this film of persuasion do?
The film grossed $64.3 million on a $15 million budget and was well received by critics, who praised the direction, performances, themes, and humor. Hoffman received a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Actor for his performance and screenwriters David Mamet and Hilary Henkin were both nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay.
Let’s look at another one.
The Ides of March is a 2011 American political drama film directed by George Clooney from a screenplay written by Clooney, Grant Heslov, and Beau Willimon.
The film is an adaptation of Willimon’s 2008 play Farragut North. It stars Ryan Gosling and Clooney alongside Philip Seymour Hoffman, Paul Giamatti, Marisa Tomei, Jeffrey Wright, and Evan Rachel Wood.
Here is the storyline.
Stephen Meyers is the junior campaign manager for Governor of Pennsylvania Mike Morris, who is competing against Arkansas Senator Ted Pullman in the Democratic presidential primary.
Both campaigns are vying for the endorsement of Senator Franklin Thompson, who controls 356 delegates; these would clinch the nomination for either candidate.
At the Morris campaign’s headquarters in Cincinnati, Meyers receives a call from Tom Duffy, Pullman’s campaign manager; Duffy asks him to meet in secret at a local bar.
Meyers calls his boss, Morris campaign manager Paul Zara, who does not answer. Meyers decides to meet with Duffy anyway and Duffy offers him a position in Pullman’s campaign; Meyers refuses. When Zara calls back, Meyers does not tell him about the meeting.
This sets off a chain of events that almost gets Stephen fired for betrayal. This is when Stephen uses his powers of persuasion and negotiation (some would call blackmail) to keep his job.
It is very fascinating how he does that.
How about you? How good are you at getting what you want? In all fairness, it is the essence in human relationships that can propel you to success, or otherwise.
Time to go over to the book store.

In this short life, so much of how far we go depends upon the people that can help us. What we want to avoid is being a human repellent. No, you don’t always say what you really think. Compliments are always welcome. Ultimately, what you are offering and want people to partake in must be of great value.
That’s good.
Still, once you get to the point of having something extremely valuable to offer, keep building your skills of persuasion. If you do so, in a variety of ways?
It will make life far more lucrative and satisfying.
