May 19, 2023,
Certain seasons dictate that you spend money. Sometimes, lots of it. Gleefully.
Summer and winter, especially.
Summer tends to request that, because of all of the fun you are about to have. Hotel stays. Beach parties. Rental car road trips. Riviera hotels.
Winter typically has different demands. One in particular.
Pay for your heat. Try and stay warm.
To meet these expectations, you must dedicate yourself to an important pathway.
Saving money.
You’ve heard the expression before.
There are spenders and savers. Our suggestion?
Try and be a good saver.
We bank with Bank of America and they have an intriguing savings program. Check it out.
At bankofamerica.com they educate, “Keep the Change® is an easy way to make everyday purchases part of your savings plan. First, enroll the Bank of America debit card you use for daily purchases.
Pro-tip, use this card for online and recurring payments to collect the most change.
Next, use your card for everyday purchases such as at drug stores, the drive-thru or for an impulsive, must-have online buy. In other words, spend like you normally would.
Finally, we’ll round up your purchase to the nearest dollar amount and transfer the change from your checking account to your savings account — or to a child’s savings account.”
Sounds effective.

Some ideas do not sound fun, but if you save you money, that time period will be far more fun than if you don’t.
It is called retirement. Not really a fun subject and sometimes it seems so far away but for those of us who made it there, even barely, you absolutely want to have money.
Lots of it.
There is nothing sadder than watching documentaries of people who once worked fulltime and are now living out of their cars or vans.
The essence of saving money is not complicated.
Don’t spend more money than you make per month.
Save a certain percentage every month, without any excuses.
We said it was simple. We didn’t say it was easy.
The other aspect that will help you is to save with a purpose.
Are you going to have a big year end party?
Are you going far away for vacation?
Do you want to surprise a loved one with a stupendous gift?
It is all possible, if you start saving.
Now, for a crazy idea.
We have a friend, we will call Tessa.
Tessa has built up friendships in her community by bartering with her neighbors, from babysitting to watering their lawn and garden when her friends go on vacation.
In return, they save their recyclables and give them to her.
Tessa then recycles them and saves every penny. Then when she deposits it at the bank, she “matches” it with a $15 check.
Most of us will not miss $15. True?
Her monthly deposit amounts to around $100.
Think about it. If Tessa doesn’t touch the money, which she doesn’t, she will have $1,200 in her savings account.
And to think, that savings is based upon what people are going to throw away.
We are always looking for more ideas on how to save money.
Let’s walk over to the bookstore.
