June 5, 2023,
Life sure would be easier without them.
Then we could all live a nice quiet life.
But, unfortunately, when it comes to facing problems, they come our way.
Is that unfortunately or fortunately?
Well, it depends upon who you ask.
You’re asking us?
Our feeling is, life is balance, which means, sometimes problem solving helps you to grow and evolve as a person. You do want that, right?
Isn’t that what a leader does? They lead, make big decisions and solve problems.
Thus, if problems are going to come our way, and they will, wouldn’t it be good to be proficient at solving the ones you can yourself, instead of relying upon others to do that for you?
The team at psychologytoday.com suggest, “Do you typically approach a problem from many perspectives or opt for the same old solution that worked in the past? In his work on human motivation, Robert E. Franken states that in order to be creative, you need to be able to view things from different perspectives.”
Okay, there is balance.
Take the initiative to solve the problem yourself but be open to receiving alternate ideas to help in being creative as to how you solve it.
We like that.
What we like about film is that problems are presented and it often takes a team of experts to creatively solve the problem. A problem that cannot be walked away from.
The Batman is a 2022 American superhero film based on the DC Comics character Batman.
It stars Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne (Batman) alongside Zoë Kravitz, Paul Dano, Jeffrey Wright, John Turturro, Peter Sarsgaard, Andy Serkis, and Colin Farrell.
What is the problem?
The film sees Batman, who has been fighting crime in Gotham City for two years, uncover corruption while pursuing the Riddler (Dano), a serial killer who targets Gotham’s corrupt elite.
A serial killer, murdering the leaders of a major metropolis.
Now that’s a problem.
It is not outlandish. Look at the world we live in?
Rising waters.
Raging fires.
Mass shootings.
Social unrest.
War.
We could go on, but let’s face it. To even remotely solve these problems, you need to be creative.
And dedicated.
What we liked about “The Batman” was the slow, methodical way, primarily on dark sets, that Batman unraveled the problem, and then had to come up with a solution to end it.
Let’s look at another film.
The Good Nurse is a 2022 American biographical crime thriller film, starring Jessica Chastain and Eddie Redmayne, about Amy Loughren, a night nurse, who suspects that her co-worker Charles Cullen is a serial killer.
Now how would you like to be in that position?
Someone was in real life, since the movie is based upon a true story.
Yes, the film is based on the 2013 true-crime book of the same name by Charles Graeber.
Here is the storyline.
In 2003, Amy Loughren is a single mother and nurse working in the intensive care unit (ICU) at Parkfield Memorial Hospital in New Jersey, who is suffering from cardiomyopathy, unbeknownst to anyone at the hospital, and fears dismissal.
Due to having no health insurance, Amy has no other choice than to remain working for another four months, in order to acquire the insurance to afford a heart transplant.
The hospital recruits experienced nurse Charles Cullen to help her work the night shifts, and they quickly become good friends. Charlie discovers her condition and empathetically agrees to keep it a secret.
When an elderly patient named Ana Martinez, who was being looked after by Amy and Charlie, suddenly dies, the hospital’s administrative board contacts the state police, represented by detectives Danny Baldwin and Tim Braun. However, the board, led by risk manager Linda Garran, quickly downplays it.
Over time, Amy begins to suspect that Charlie is behind a series of questionable deaths.
He is a good friend who stuck his neck out for her.
How in the world do you proceed to solve a problem like that? Or would you conclude, that is not your problem and look the other way?
You can’t.
Amy couldn’t. And didn’t. She eventually helped to permanently solve that problem.
The film is a perfect example of trying to solve a problem that you absolutely wished you didn’t have to get involved in.
Let’s look at some basic components of problem solving.
Time to walk over to the book store.
