June 12, 2023,
It will get your attention.
Sometimes intensely so.
New and improved.
When you see that on a product label, especially one that you have purchased for some time, at least for the moment, doesn’t that get your attention?
And, what if it actually is true? It truly is new and improved. How wonderful.
Now for the point.
The principles of life rarely change. If new and improved products are attractive to people, how about new and improved people? Aren’t they more attractive to people too?
We are all attracted to them too. Right?
At least the movies tell us so.
She’s All That is a 1999 American teen romantic comedy film directed by Robert Iscove.
It stars Freddie Prinze Jr., Rachael Leigh Cook, Matthew Lillard, and Paul Walker.
After being dumped by his girlfriend, Zack Siler boasts he could make any girl at his high school popular. It is a modern adaptation of George Bernard Shaw‘s play Pygmalion and George Cukor‘s 1964 film My Fair Lady.
The film received mixed reviews from critics, who praised the performances of the lead actors, but were critical of the script.
Having said that, it was one of the most popular teen films of the late 1990s and reached No. 1 at the box office in its first week of release. It went on to earn $103 million worldwide.
Very impressive. That is a lot of attraction.
Now, for the storyline.
Zack Siler is the big man on campus at his Southern California high school.
After returning from spring break, he finds out his girlfriend, Taylor, has cheated on him with a reality TV star, Brock. After Zack and Taylor’s breakup, Zack consoles himself by claiming that Taylor is replaceable with any girl in the school.
That really seems to speak to a massive ego.
Zack’s friend Dean disagrees and bets Zack to turn any random girl from school into the prom queen in six weeks. Zack accepts the challenge.
Dean chooses Laney Boggs, an awkward and unpopular art student.
Or so it seems.
Zack attempts to befriend Laney, but she pointedly ignores his advances until he asks for her help with art. She reluctantly invites him to a small theater lounge where she will perform. Intending to deter him, Laney volunteers Zack to perform onstage. Zack manages to improvise a routine with his hacky sack.
Laney is impressed but still rejects him when he attempts to charm her again.
Seems this will be a greater challenge for Zack than he initially thought.
When Zack shows up at her house, Laney reluctantly agrees to go to the beach with him and his friends, and they invite her to a party later. Laney says she’s busy, but Zack persuades her to go.
Drum roll.
Time to transform.
He enlists his cooperative sister to give her a makeover.
Everything changes after that.
In our minds? With this new and improved makeover? She becomes all that.
When we speak of transforming, we are not just talking about the physical aspect to it.
While that is massively important, the internal transformation is just as important. This might include a lifestyle improvement in terms of discarding people who bring bad things into your life, even if they are family.
What you will find with transformations is that, though there may be growing pains, your life will tend to improve for the better. Possibly much better.
That’s our view.
We’ve been to the movies, now let’s walk over to the bookstore and listen to an expert. See what you think of his view.
Shift Your Thinking: 200 Ways to Improve Your Life Mass Market Paperback – January 5, 2016
By Dean Del Sesto (Author)
“In the battleground of the mind, many of us are ill-equipped. We say we want to grow, improve, and succeed, but so often we silently and effectively kill our own dreams by the things we tell ourselves.
Shift Your Thinking provides truly unconventional, yet highly practical ways to re-engineer our thought-life and behaviors so we can attain the things we say are important to us. Dean Del Sesto shows busy readers how to make small shifts in their thinking that can have big impacts.
These to-the-point readings will provoke, inspire, and move readers to improve all areas of life, work, and relationships through simple, yet critical shifts in the way we govern our thinking. Del Sesto introduces readers to provocative ideas like:
If we were a brand would we buy ourselves, or keep shopping?
During tough times in life, it’s easy to medicate ourselves with distraction.
When we begin to think less of what people think of us, it is then we are able to think.
If we gossiped about ourselves for a week, we might never gossip about another again.
Don’t confuse being a visionary with the ability to actually bring forth a vision.
Wisdom is saying enough to prove our point, not our existence.
Each principle can be applied instantly to readers’ lives, making Shift Your Thinking a useful, valuable source of inspiration and motivation in a rapidly changing world.”
Yes indeed. So much about transformation and self-improvement begins between the ears.
And you know what? The world is constantly changing and what worked before may not work now.
Unconventional may be a very good thing.
Keep this in mind.
Life is transitional.
Life is change.
Constant.
Agree?
Since we know that to be true, as we age, transition and change, will it be for the better? You can’t leave those mechanisms to figure out important things by themselves. You need to get involved.
So, take the bull by the horns and get involved.
Take steps to transform and improve your life. Be the product that people are greatly attracted to.
If you improve and become “all that”, you will be “all that”.
More people will be attracted to you.
What a wonderful feeling.
What a wonderful new life.
