August 16, 2023,
Do we really need another streaming service?
Well, it depends upon who you ask.
We know some in our circle who love the variety and want more and more streaming services.
Admittedly, one of them (we will call Tabitha), watches a ton of television. We’re not sure how good that is for you or if you can ever accomplish much, but she had an extremely stressful situation that she removed herself from and a lifestyle that was not a good fit, so watching a lot of television is a great escape.
Her health has definitely improved.
We get it and we’re happy for her.
Then there are age and demographics that come into play. Many factors actually, but since the Pandemic, people love their streaming services and can’t get enough. It is as though a new habit was created and people love it.
As reported by Forbes magazine, “A survey of 1,005 American consumers commissioned by Forbes Home and conducted by market research company Prolific found the most popular type of digital subscriptions are streaming services, which 90% of consumers subscribe to.”
Good to know.
The article goes on to add, according to data by the Motion Picture Association, the number of subscriptions to online video streaming services worldwide reached a whopping 1.1 billion in 2020.
We’re not surprised.
Tabitha has her own theory about this subject.
Tabitha? Have at it.
One of the reasons she likes to stream from home is that she doesn’t like going out at night.
Given her past, that makes perfect sense.
Another factor is that she feels it is far less expensive than going to the movies. By the time you pay for gas, food and tickets, you are easily over $40.
So far, so good. Can’t argue with either of those reasons.
She also loves the variety.
In her mind, the big girls and boys like HBO Max, Showtime, Cinemax and Starz tend to repeat a lot of programming. Even when her cable source gives away a free week, she barely watches those stations because if you have subscribed to them before, so much of it will be repeated. She likes the smaller streaming services because much of what they provide is original and they also house movies seldom seen that would be outdated for the larger networks.
Tabitha loves Hulu, Peacock and Prime Video. She likes Netflix too, though she feels much of their original movies and series are very formulaic.
Well, that was an earful. Enjoyed it.
Tabitha just left our coffee shop table to go home and watch television before it gets dark.
As for us, given the work that we do and the research it requires, we love streaming. Can’t live without it.
So, how about you? Do you love to stream? The options keep growing.
And we like the bundling as well. If you do too, there is another streaming option out there for you,
Drum roll please.
