August 27, 2023,
Can you keep your excitement while others around you are losing their heads and Rome is burning?
If you can, kudos to you. We greatly admire you. Given all that is going on in the world.
Here are some of the headlines.
The informative source concernusa.org educates, “In the past decade, the global refugee crisis has more than doubled in scope. In 2022, the UNHCR announced that we had surpassed the 100 million mark for total displacement, meaning that over 1.2% of the global population have been forced to leave their homes. Among these people are over 32.5 million refugees. 76% of those refugees come from just six countries.”
The thought that the world has surpassed the 100 mark for displacement is shocking.
Then there is the major issue of climate change.
As reported by indianexpress.com, “In one of the worst natural disasters to hit the US, multiple wildfires are raging through Hawaii, especially the island of Maui. It is known that at least 93 people have died as of August 13, thousands have been displaced and buildings and businesses have burnt down — the numbers will rise as rescue operations increase.”
We are based in Northern California and we can tell you first hand, the threat of the fires every year makes you hold your breath.
Fortunately this previous winter was a wet one. That certainly helped.
But the fire problem, around the world, continues.
The United States Environmental Protection Agency explains, “The peak of the U.S. wildfire season is occurring earlier. An average of 1.7 million acres burned in July of each year from 2002 to 2020.”
We will keep watching this issue. Many of us in the Western United States have to.
Finally, we turn to social issues.
The group at pewresearch.org posted, “More Americans died of gun-related injuries in 2021 than in any other year on record, according to the latest available statistics from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). That included record numbers of both gun murders and gun suicides.”
The other social issues are so ugly and enormous, we will stop here.
And yet, despite all of the challenges in a world, with a growing population and diminishing resources, how do we keep our enthusiasm and excitement about life?
From our view, the key is to find your purpose, stick to it and make it grow.
The starting place is focusing on what you love.
Whether it is a hobby or recreational pursuit, what do you love in life?
Next is a very important question.
By pursuing it, will it help other people?
Let’s focus on the importance of having a purpose by walking over to the bookstore.
Find Your Why: A Practical Guide for Discovering Purpose for You and Your Team Paperback – September 5, 2017
By Simon Sinek (Author), David Mead (Author), Peter Docker(Author)
Start With Why has led millions of readers to rethink everything they do – in their personal lives, their careers and their organizations.
Now Find Your Why picks up where Start With Why left off. It shows you how to apply Simon Sinek’s powerful insights so that you can find more inspiration at work — and in turn inspire those around you.
I believe fulfillment is a right and not a privilege. We are all entitled to wake up in the morning inspired to go to work, feel safe when we’re there and return home fulfilled at the end of the day. Achieving that fulfillment starts with understanding exactly WHY we do what we do.
As Start With Why has spread around the world, countless readers have asked me the same question: How can I apply Start With Why to my career, team, company or nonprofit? Along with two of my colleagues, Peter Docker and David Mead, I created this hands-on, step-by-step guide to help you find your WHY.
With detailed exercises, illustrations, and action steps for every stage of the process, Find Your Why can help you address many important concerns, including:
* What if my WHY sounds just like my competitor’s?
* Can I have more than one WHY?
* If my work doesn’t match my WHY, what should I do?
* What if my team can’t agree on our WHY?
Whether you’ve just started your first job, are leading a team, or are CEO of your own company, the exercises in this book will help guide you on a path to long-term success and fulfillment, for both you and your colleagues.”
Sounds fantastic and effective.
Now that you have a foundation for a purpose, let’s get excited and enthusiastic about it.
How?
With dynamic energy.
