October 7, 2023,
Student loans and insurance have two substantial things in common, from opposite directions.
When a student feels they need a loan to pay for college, loan is a good word.
When a customer files a claim, and gets paid by the insurance company, insurance is a good word.
Then there is the bad.
When you are a student and it is time to pay back your loans, loan is a bad word.
When you are a customer and you have to pay insurance premiums every month, insurance is bad.
As the legendary singing group, The Persuaders sang, It’s A Thin Line, Between Love And Hate.
Sometimes a very thin line.
Now, one word that students love to hear, which can obliterate payments on both of the above, is a very magical word.
Scholarship.
Lovely word isn’t it? You can use it in virtually any sentence and it is lovely.
For good reason. It can save a high school or college student so much stress.
Think about the alternative. Tuition.
Regarding the Boston region, the team at axios.com educates, “The metro area’s median college tuition price in the 2021-22 academic year reached $39,649, a 6.6% increase from the 2018-19 academic year, according to the National Center for Education Statistics.”
That’s a lot. There’s more.
Hold on to your books.
The global news source CNN reports, “The average American saved $5,011 last year. That means it would take them about 75 years to save up enough cash to send one child to a top-rated US university. The average tuition at US private colleges grew by about 4% last year to just under $40,000 per year, according to data collected by US News & World Report.”
$5,000. That doesn’t sound like a lot. One of our associates shared that is exactly what he saved in 2023. That’s it. That’s all. And you know what?
That was a good year.
For some students, there is great news.
CBS News announced, “The Biden administration said it is forgiving $9 billion in student debt for 125,000 borrowers, a move that comes as student loan repayments are starting up again this month after a hiatus of more than three years.”
For 125,000 people, that is incredible news.
With the original debt forgiveness plan struck down by the Supreme Court, the Biden administration has focused on other options for relieving student debt, including creating a new income-driven debt repayment (IDR) plan as well as outright forgiveness for some qualified borrowers.
So, look. Every way that you can, focus on getting a scholarship. Yes, easier said than done but absolutely worth the effort.
The US Government offers many scholarships.
As shared by the informative group at searchlogistics.com, “Over 1.7 million scholarships are awarded every year and 58% of U.S. families use scholarships to help pay for college. The largest federal scholarship fund is Pell Grant and provides financial support to 7.5 million students annually.”
Always remember, there are many companies who are offering substantial scholarships. You just have to find them.
Here is another option that might work for you. It is worth a closer look.
