August 4, 2024,
As you look into your future, what you hope for, belief in, often depends upon if you feel that it can actually happen.
For example, do you believe you can afford a nice home for you and your family in an acceptable neighborhood? If so, how does this recent news affect you?
As reported by the informative source finance.yahoo.com,” A new Zillow study says the market is even more restrictive in over 200 cities. The report found that in 237 cities across the United States, a starter home will cost $1 million or more.”
That is up a whopping 82 percent in five years.
We are from the greater San Francisco Bay Area and short of partnering with groups to invest, we don’t see how the average person can ever afford a starter home in a big city market.
If that is your goal, how do you keep hope alive?
Time for a closer look.
Hope is an optimistic state of mind that is based on an expectation of positive outcomes with respect to events and circumstances in one’s life or the world at large.
Hope has been widely recognized as a crucial and inherent aspect of human existence, not only by philosophers from various backgrounds but also by national and international courts, particularly in the past decade. Serving as an existential element within each individual, hope manifests itself in various ways in both private and public spheres.
In certain scenarios, like the above starter home example, sometimes you have to explore alternative pathways that lead you toward your desired destination.
An online source perceives Professor of Psychology Barbara Fredrickson argues that hope comes into its own when crisis looms, opening us to new creative possibilities.
She argues that with great need comes an unusually wide range of ideas, as well as such positive emotions as happiness and joy, courage, and empowerment, drawn from four different areas of one’s self: from a cognitive, psychological, social, or physical perspective.
Such positive thinking bears fruit when based on a realistic sense of optimism, not on a naive “false hope”.

Even people of modest means can get into pre-foreclosure investing and all it takes is a little hard work, persistence, and the tools you’ll find in this handy guide.”
As you can see, there are always alternative pathways in trying to help you achieve your goal.
Another school of thought is the psychologist Charles R. Snyder linked hope to the existence of a goal, combined with a determined plan for reaching that goal.
Perhaps another pathway for a young person to keep hope in a life altering goal, like paying for college, is becoming a sports star and achieving great grades.
The team at educationdata.org share, “The average cost of attendance for a student living on campus at an in-state public 4-year institution is $27,146 per year or $108,584 over 4 years. Out-of-state students pay $45,708 per year or $182,832 over 4 years. Private, nonprofit university students pay $58,628 per year or $234,512 over 4 years.”
In terms of that equation, where do you see yourself?
Remember, if you can’t get it the direct way, don’t give up hope.
As far as sports, it is a new world. Become exceptional at your sport of choice. Here, in part is why.
In college athletics in the United States, a student-athlete who participates in a varsity sport on any and all levels is eligible to profit from their name, image, and likeness (NIL).
Historically, the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) was the first association to permit pro-am, as the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) resisted efforts to compensate college athletes beyond the scholarship and stipend.
However, the Supreme Court‘s decision in NCAA v. Alston (2021) allows for non-scholarship earned income across every division.
As you see, getting a scholarship is not the only way to have your college education paid for.
For example The informative source on3.com shares, “LSU gymnast Livvy Dunne has been a trailblazer in the NIL space since the NCAA puts its interim policy in place on July 1, 2021. Now a junior, she earned All-America honors on uneven bars last year and landed on the SEC academic honor roll. And for all the success she has had in the gym, she’s continued to build her brand outside of gymnastics.”
For example, they go on to share, at their reporting, Livvy’s NIL evaluation was 2.3 million dollars.
Let’s turn to an expert.

Isn’t that what most student athletes are looking for? It certainly can be attainable for you if you are willing to be creative and sacrifice.

You should create a space, begin a pathway where you are hopeful. It is so critical to live your life with hope. It will fuel you to make great and needed sacrifices to reach your goals.
We gave you two examples here, and most of the point being, if one pathway appears to be closed, create alternative pathways.
Living the life that you actually want is worth the effort, no matter the sacrifice.
That is why you need to nurture and sustain hope.
