December 16, 2024,
You are on the rise. No matter your ranking.
Any way that you look at it.
What is the major indicator?
You are winning tournaments.
What corner of the globe? As long as it is on the tour, that doesn’t really matter.
Just ask Viktorija Golubic. Let’s look at some recent headlines.
The insiders at wtatennis.com announced, “Viktorija Golubic captured her second career Hologic WTA Tour title, first on hard courts and first since Lausanne 2016 at the 2024 Jiangxi Open. No.168-ranked Golubic, 32, was the lowest-ranked player to win a tour-level trophy in 2024.”
Time to move up.
On December 15, 2024, as reported by tennismajors.com, “No 7 seed Viktorija Golubic defeated Celine Naef 7-5, 6-4 to win the Open BLS de Limoges tournament on Sunday afternoon. Golubic, ranked No 109, beat Russian lucky loser Ekaterina Makarova (6-4, 6-1).
Great. A tournament victory will start to point your rankings in the right direction. Once 168, now 109. Racing the rocket.
Let’s meet Viktorija.
Viktorija is a Swiss professional tennis player.
She has fallen before.
On February 28. 2022, she reached her career-high singles WTA ranking of No. 35.
We’re hoping she can reach that ranking again.
Time for a little history. From humble beginnings.
Ms. Golubic started playing on the ITF Women’s Circuit at the $10k event in Budapest in June 2008.
She played her first two WTA Tour qualifying tournaments at the Hungarian Open and Gastein Ladies in 2010, and made her main-draw debut at the Gastein Ladies in 2013, where she recorded her first WTA Tour win and reached the second round.
Drum roll.
At the 2024 Australian Open, she recorded her first wins at this major defeating 15th seed Veronika Kudermetova and Kateřina Siniaková, and returned to the top 75 in the rankings, at No. 71 on January 29, 2024.
Our star is from Zurich. Let’s go there.
Zurich is the largest city in Switzerland, located in the north-central trigon. As of January 2023, the municipality had 443,037 inhabitants, the urban area 1.315 million (2009), and the Zurich metropolitan area 1.83 million (2011).
Zurich is a hub for railways, roads, and air traffic. Both Zurich Airport and Zurich’s main railway station are the largest and busiest in the country.
The world travelers at lonelyplanet.com add some color. “Culturally vibrant, efficiently run and attractively set at the meeting of river and lake, Zürich is has emerged as one of Central Europe’s hippest destinations.”
Hipster vibe usually means great eats.
We’re starting to get hungry.
Swiss cuisine is an ensemble of national, regional and local dishes, consisting of the ingredients, recipes and cooking techniques developed in Switzerland or assimilated from other cultures, particularly neighboring countries.
The climate of Switzerland allows for a large variety of terroirs, and therefore a wide range of indigenous food, from simple cereals to refined products like cheese and wine.
Probably the most significant changes occurred after colonization of the Americas and the introduction of now-widely-used ingredients such as potatoes, maize and cocoa. The increase in purchasing power and a certain homogenization of taste have allowed the emergence of some emblematic national dishes such as fondue and rösti.
Well-known products exported worldwide include cheese, wine and chocolate.
Sounds sweet.
As she continues to win tournaments, it is good to update the heroics of Viktorija Golubic.
